The guide

Everything Lucy can do, in the words you’d text her. Ask, or browse.

Getting started

How do I start?

Text a photo of your business to 1-888-416-5829. Lucy writes a sample post and your first month of Hook starts right there — 10 posts, no card, nothing to sign up for.

There is nothing to install and nothing to log in to. Text Lucy a photo — a dish, a delivery, a happy customer — and she writes a sample post so you can see what she would say. That sample is the start of your free month of Hook: 10 posts, no card needed. Then she asks one thing — your website — reads it, and tells you what she understood so you can correct anything. A link to connect your pages, and you're posting. Near the end of the month she reminds you to pick a plan; if you don't, posting pauses and your accounts stay connected for 30 days. You always text first: Lucy never messages a number that has not messaged her. Lucy is built for businesses: she posts to a Facebook Page and an Instagram business or creator account, not to personal profiles.

Can Lucy text in French or Spanish? What language are my posts in?

Yes — I text in English, French and Spanish. Just text FRANÇAIS, ESPAÑOL or ENGLISH to switch, and tell me which language(s) your posts should be in.

Lucy texts in English, French and Spanish. She picks up the language of your first text, and you can switch any time by texting the language's name — FRANÇAIS, ESPAÑOL or ENGLISH (in any language, typos are fine) — or just by writing to her in it. Posts are a separate choice: English, French or Spanish, or two of them together (for example French and English). Tell Lucy, e.g. "post in English and Spanish", and change it whenever you like. More languages are coming.

How do I reach a human? Is there an email?

Email hello@lucy.media — Lucy's team reads it. Or just text me: I answer from this guide, and point you to it when I don't know.

Lucy's team reads hello@lucy.media. Use it for anything you'd rather put in an email: billing questions, a problem with a post, or something that doesn't fit in a text. You can also just text Lucy — she answers from this guide, and when she doesn't know, she says so and points you here.

What words can I text Lucy?

You never need these — plain English works. But the short ways are: YES to approve, SCRAP to bin a draft, RETRY if a post failed, STATUS, CONNECT, BILLING, PAUSE, QUIET, HELP, STOP. The full list with what each one does is at lucy.media/guide#keywords

You never have to memorise any of these. Plain English works, and Lucy asks when she is unsure. But if you like knowing the short way, here is every word she understands.

Posting

  • YES — publishes the preview. APPROVE, POST and OK do the same.
  • SCRAP — bins the preview. DELETE does the same.
  • ONE — turns two to four photos into a single combined image. COMBINE, MERGE, COLLAGE and GRID do the same.
  • SWIPE — makes those photos a swipeable post instead. CAROUSEL, SEPARATE and ALBUM do the same.
  • RETRY — tries again when a post went out on one network and failed on the other.

Your account

  • STATUS — your plan, how many posts you have left, and what is connected.
  • WHO — everyone who can text Lucy about your business.
  • CONNECT — links your Facebook Page and Instagram. Owner only.
  • DISCONNECT — unlinks them. Add INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK or ALL to pick. UNLINK does the same. Owner only.
  • BILLING — opens your billing page to change plan, card or cancel. Owner only.
  • MORE — asks for extra posts this month. EXTRA does the same.
  • PAUSE — stops Lucy posting for a while. HOLD does the same. RESUME (or UNPAUSE) starts her again.
  • QUIET — turns Lucy's reminders off. MUTE does the same. NOTICES (or UNMUTE) turns them back on.
  • ADD — invites a colleague. REMOVE and their number takes one off.
  • CHANGE — moves the account to a new phone.
  • EXPORT — asks for a copy of everything Lucy holds about you.
  • DELETE ACCOUNT — erases it all after 30 days. KEEP (or RESTORE) calls that off. Owner only.

Always available

  • HELP — what Lucy is, and how to reach us.
  • STOP — unsubscribes you from texts entirely. START brings you back.

What is Lucy, exactly?

I run your Instagram and Facebook by text. Send me a photo, I write the caption and send a preview, you reply YES and it's live. No app, no dashboard. Your first month is free, with no card.

Lucy is a social media manager that lives in your Messages app. You text a photo of whatever is happening at your business, she writes captions in your voice for Instagram and Facebook, and texts you a preview. Reply YES and it publishes to both; tell her what to change and she reworks it, up to three times. Send up to ten photos in one message for a carousel, or two to four for her to combine into a single image. There is no app, no dashboard and nothing to log in to. Your first month of Hook is free with no card; after that it is $9 a month for 10 posts, or $39 for 60 across up to six accounts, with two months free if you pay yearly. No video or stories yet. Text 1-888-416-5829 to start.

Can I ask Lucy questions?

Yes — ask by text and I'll answer from this guide. For your own account (posts left, billing date, plan) text me too; this web page can't see who you are.

Anything on this page, Lucy can answer by text or in the box at the top of it. Questions about your own account — how many posts are left this month, when the next bill is, which pages are connected, whether reminders are on — are answered by text only, because this page does not know who is asking. If something is not covered, Lucy says so and points you to this guide rather than guessing.

Posting

How do I post a photo?

Text me the photo, with a note if there's something to mention (a price, a time, a name). I'll text back a preview in about a minute — reply YES to post it.

Send the photo as a normal text message. Add a note in the same message if there is a fact worth including — Lucy uses it for details like prices, hours or product names, and writes everything else from the photo and your business profile. About a minute later you get a preview with the Instagram and Facebook captions. Reply YES and it goes live right away.

How do I approve a post, or change it?

Reply YES to post it as is. To change it, just text what you want different ("shorter", "mention the patio") — up to three rounds. SCRAP tosses it.

The preview is yours to approve, edit or drop. YES posts it. Any other message is treated as an edit instruction: say what to change in plain words and Lucy rewrites the captions and sends a fresh preview. You get three rounds of changes per post; after that it is YES or SCRAP. SCRAP throws the draft away and you can send a new photo whenever you like.

Where does Lucy post?

Instagram and Facebook — both, from the one photo you send. Nothing else yet.

Every approved post goes to your Instagram business account and your Facebook page, with captions written for each. Other networks are not available yet; when one is, it will be on this page before Lucy offers it.

Can Lucy combine several photos into one image?

Yes — send 2 to 4 photos in one message and I'll ask ONE or SWIPE. Reply ONE and I combine them into a single image; or just say "combine" in your note.

Send two, three or four photos in one message. If your note says "combine" (or collage, grid, one image) Lucy combines them straight away; otherwise she asks whether you want ONE combined image or a SWIPE-through carousel. Two photos go side by side, three make one tall and two stacked, four make a grid — thin white gutters, square, ready for Instagram and Facebook. Five or more photos always become a carousel.

Can I schedule a post for a particular day or time?

Not yet — I post in real time. Send the photo at the moment you want it up and I'll have a preview back in about a minute, live as soon as you reply YES.

Lucy has no scheduling yet. Everything happens in the thread as you send it: you text the photo, a preview comes back in about a minute, you reply YES or ask for a change, and it goes to Instagram and Facebook straight away. If a post needs to land at a particular time, send it to me then. The whole loop takes a couple of minutes.

Can I send Lucy a video?

Not yet — photos only for now. Send me a photo from the moment instead and I'll write the post.

Lucy posts photos and photo carousels. Video, Reels and Stories are not available yet. When video arrives it will be listed on this page before Lucy offers it. In the meantime a good still from the moment gets the same story across.

Can Lucy do a before-and-after post?

Yes — send both in one message with a note like "before and after". Reply ONE for a side-by-side image, or SWIPE for a two-photo carousel.

Send the before photo and the after photo in the same message, before first, with a note like "before and after — new patio". Lucy asks ONE or SWIPE: ONE puts them side by side in a single image, SWIPE posts them as a carousel. Either way she writes one caption for the pair.

Can Lucy add effects, filters or animation to a photo?

Not yet — I post your photo as it is, with no filters, animation or Ken Burns pans. What I do is write the caption. I can combine 2 to 4 photos into one image, or post up to 10 as a carousel.

Lucy does not edit your photo. No filters, no animation, no zooms or pans, no borders. She posts what you send and puts the work into the caption. The two things she will do to an image are combining two to four photos into a single square, and posting up to ten as a carousel. If you have already edited a photo somewhere else, send it and she posts it as it is.

Can Lucy put text on a photo, or make a poster?

Not yet — I write the caption, I don't draw on the photo. Words go in the caption, where they're searchable and readable on every phone.

Lucy does not add text, prices, logos or graphics onto the image itself, and does not make posters or flyers. Put the details in your note and she works them into the caption. If you already have a poster or a graphic, send it as a photo and she posts it as it is with a caption.

A post went up on one network but not the other. What now?

The receipt tells you which one didn't go through. Reply RETRY and I'll try that one again — I never repost the one that's already live.

Occasionally one network accepts a post and the other does not. The receipt says so plainly. Reply RETRY and Lucy retries only the network that failed; the one that is already live is left alone. If it still fails, Lucy says so — reply RETRY again later, or send the photo as a new post.

How do I delete or fix a post that's already gone out?

Lucy can't remove a post once it's live — you do it in the apps, and it takes a few taps. On Instagram open the post, tap the three dots, Delete. On Facebook open the post on your Page, three dots, Delete post.

Once a post is published it belongs to your Facebook Page and your Instagram account, not to Lucy, and she has no way to take it back. Instagram in particular does not allow any app to delete or edit a post after it goes out — that is Instagram's rule, not a gap in Lucy. So removing one is something you do yourself, and it is quick. On Instagram: open the post, tap the three dots at the top right, tap Delete. On Facebook: open the post on your Page, tap the three dots at the top right, tap Delete post. If it is a small wording fix rather than a bad post, Facebook lets you tap Edit post and change the words; Instagram does not allow that either, so there the only options are leave it or delete it and post again. The place to catch problems is the preview: Lucy shows you every caption before anything is published, and nothing goes out until you reply YES. If a caption is not right, reply with what to change instead of approving it — that is far easier than fixing it afterwards.

Messages from Lucy

How do I stop, or come back?

Reply STOP to stop all texts from me. Reply START any time to pick up where we left off. HELP gets you help.

STOP ends all messages from Lucy to that phone, and CANCEL does the same. From a colleague's phone it removes just their number. From the owner's phone it pauses the whole account, and because Lucy works only by text, a paid plan then ends at the close of the period you have paid for. Reply START before then and nothing changes. Reply HELP for the essentials.

What messages does Lucy send, and what are reminders?

Everything I send is a reply to you: previews, receipts and answers. The one exception is a reminder when something needs attention, like a connection about to expire — and I ask at setup whether you want those.

Lucy replies to what you send: a preview to approve, a receipt once a post is live, and answers to questions like this one. Separately, during setup she asks whether you want service reminders — for example when a Facebook connection is about to expire. No is a complete answer and you lose nothing. Reply QUIET at any time to turn reminders off, or NOTICES to turn them back on; the rest of the service is unaffected either way. Lucy never sends marketing.

Is Lucy ever offline for maintenance?

Briefly, late on Wednesday nights: the database has a maintenance window from 10pm to 2am Pacific (1–5am Eastern). If a text lands in a hiccup I'll ask you to send it again a minute later.

Lucy's database can have short scheduled maintenance on Wednesday nights between 10pm and 2am Pacific time (1am to 5am Eastern, 05:00 to 09:00 UTC). Most weeks nothing happens; when it does, the interruption is seconds, not hours. If your text arrives in one of those seconds you get a short reply — "I'm having a moment — give me a minute and text that again", with the same line in French and Spanish — and your next text goes through as normal. Nothing you have sent is lost, and posts already live are unaffected.

Billing

How do I update my card, change plan or cancel?

Text BILLING and I'll send a secure link that opens once — update your card, see invoices, change plan or cancel. Never text me card details.

Text BILLING from the owner's phone. Lucy replies with a private Stripe link where you can change your card, download invoices, switch between Hook and Grow, or cancel. It opens once, so tap it straight away and ask for another if you need it. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. On your free month there is nothing to cancel — no card is on file — and BILLING sends the plans page instead. Lucy never asks for card details by text; please do not send them.

What does Lucy cost?

Hook is $9 a month for 10 posts. Grow is $39 a month for 60 posts across up to 6 accounts. Pay yearly and get two months free: $90 or $390 a year.

Two plans. Hook: $9 a month, 10 posts. Grow: $39 a month, 60 posts, across up to six connected accounts. Yearly is two months cheaper — $90 or $390 a year — and runs to the end of the paid year without refunds. You pay the same number in Canadian or US dollars, in advance through Stripe — Lucy never sees your card. Your quota is monthly on either billing: it resets on your monthly anniversary and unused posts do not roll over. Lucy never bills extra automatically: if you reach your quota she tells you, and you can move up a plan or wait for the next cycle.

Do you offer referral discounts or promo codes?

Not yet — there's no referral scheme or promo codes. Your first month of Hook is free with no card, and paying yearly is two months free.

Lucy has no referral programme and no discount codes at the moment. What everyone gets is the same: a free first month of Hook with no card, then $9 or $39 a month, or two months free if you pay for the year. If you'd like to send another business our way, point them at 1-888-416-5829 and they start exactly as you did. If you think a referral scheme would be worth having, email hello@lucy.media and a human will read it.

What happens when I run out of posts for the month?

I'll tell you when you're close and when you're out, and say how long until they top back up. On Hook, text BILLING to move up to Grow and the extra room starts today. On Grow you're already on the biggest plan, so they top back up on your billing date. On the free month, reply MORE for the plans link.

Lucy warns you as you approach your monthly quota and tells you when it is used up — she never quietly bills you for more. When you are out she also tells you the date your posts come back and how many days that is, so you can decide whether to wait. What she offers depends on your plan. On Hook, the answer is the upgrade: text BILLING to move to Grow, and the bigger allowance applies to the month you are already in, not the next one. On Grow you are already on the biggest plan, so there is nothing to upgrade to — reply MORE and a person gets back to you within a day about extra room this month. On the free month there is no subscription to change yet, so reply MORE and Lucy sends the plans link; picking one starts your paid month that day with a full count.

Your account

Can I get a copy of everything Lucy holds about me?

Yes — text EXPORT. I'll ask for your email, send a code to check it's yours, and then email you everything I hold, going back to your very first text. You can ask again after a week, and each copy is complete.

Text EXPORT (or just ask for your data). Lucy asks which email to send it to and emails a 6-digit code there — tap the button in that email or text the code back, which proves the address is yours. The export then arrives by email within a minute or two, with no human involved. How far back: everything Lucy holds, from your very first text — your business details and profile, the phones on your account, your connected pages, every post with its captions, links and photos, every message between you, your consents and your plan periods. Nothing is left out, so every export is complete on its own, not just what's new since the last one; the email also says when your previous export was. You can ask once a week. Login access to Facebook and Instagram is never included — that's yours, not Lucy's to give. Only the account owner can ask. If what you want is for it all to be erased instead, reply DELETE ACCOUNT.

How does Lucy learn to write like me?

Two ways: your website, and your own past posts. When you connect your accounts I read your recent captions once to pick up how you actually write — your length, your emoji habit, the phrases you reuse.

Lucy builds a picture of your voice from two places. Your website, which you give her during setup, tells her what the business is and who it serves. Then, once you connect Instagram and Facebook, she reads your own recent posts one time to learn how you actually write: how long your captions run, whether you use emoji, whether you hashtag and which ones, the phrases you come back to, and what you tend to post about. Only your own accounts are read, using the permission you granted when you connected them, and only the summary is kept, not your posts. If the account is brand new with nothing to read, she works from your website and your own words instead.

Does Lucy know my opening hours, or what my customers say about me?

If your business is on Google under the same website you gave me, yes — I pick up your hours, any other locations, and the themes customers keep raising. I never quote a review or name anyone.

Lucy looks your business up on Google, matched against the website you gave her at setup, so she can never pick up the wrong shop. From your listing she keeps your opening hours, your address, and any other locations on the same website. She also reads the public reviews once and writes down only the themes — what customers consistently appreciate, the words they reach for, the items they single out. She does not keep review text, she never quotes a review in a post, and she never stores or mentions who wrote one. Hours are re-checked every week, and as always nothing publishes until you approve the preview.

Does Lucy look at my website?

Yes — it's the first of only two setup questions. She reads it once, then tells you what she understood so you can put her right before anything gets posted. The other question is whether you want reminders.

Setup is two questions: your website, and whether you would like Lucy to text you when something needs your attention. The first one does the work. Lucy reads the page in the background and builds a short profile — the tone of your writing, a one-line summary of the business, the products or services named on the site, and your colours and fonts. Then she reads it back to you. Reply YES if it's right, or just say what to change in your own words, as many times as you like: "it's spelled Forecast Coffee", "we moved to Squamish", "never mention prices". The tone, summary and products feed straight into her captions. Colours and fonts are kept for when she can use them; nothing draws on your photos yet. No website is fine — reply SKIP and she asks three quick questions instead, then reads those back the same way.

How do I connect Instagram and Facebook?

Text CONNECT and I'll send a secure link that works for 24 hours. Sign in with Facebook once and I get posting access only — never your password.

Text CONNECT. Lucy replies with a private link; open it, sign in with Facebook, and choose the page and Instagram account she may post to. That gives her permission to publish and nothing more — she never sees your password and cannot read your messages. If a connection ever expires, she can text you a fresh link, if you said yes to reminders during setup.

Can someone else at my business use Lucy too?

Yes. Text ADD and I'll send you a link with a QR code. Your colleague scans it, sends the text it fills in, and they're on your account.

Text ADD from the owner's phone. Lucy replies with a link to a page showing a QR code and a four-character code. Show it to your colleague: scanning it opens their Messages app with the join text ready to send, or they can type the code by hand. The invite works once and expires after 30 minutes. Once they are in, they can send photos and approve posts just like you. Only the owner can add or remove people, change the number on the account, or manage billing. A phone number belongs to one business account at a time: someone who does the posting for two businesses needs a separate number for the second one.

How do I remove someone from my account?

Text REMOVE followed by their number, e.g. REMOVE 604 555 0199. From then on that phone is a stranger to me.

From the owner's phone, text REMOVE and the number to take off. Their phone stops working with your account immediately; if they text Lucy again they are treated as someone new. A colleague can also take themselves off by replying STOP from their own phone — that removes only their number and leaves your business running.

How do I change the phone number on my account?

Text CHANGE from your current number and I'll send a QR link. Scan it with the new phone, send the text it fills in, and the account moves over.

Text CHANGE from the phone that is on the account now. Lucy replies with a link to a QR code; open it and scan it with the new phone, which sends the move text for you (or type the code by hand). The account, your connected pages and your colleagues all carry over; the old number stops working for Lucy the moment it goes through, and it gets a text saying so. If a colleague already on the account should become the owner, they can send the move text from their phone. Billing does not move by itself — text BILLING from the new number if the card or email should change hands.

Email hello@lucy.media from the email address on your billing. A human verifies it's you and moves the account to your new number.

If you no longer have the old number, texting cannot help — every move starts from the phone that is on the account. Email hello@lucy.media from the address your subscription is billed to and say which number should own the account. A person checks it against your billing details (never against the old number) and moves the account. Nothing is sent to the new phone until it texts Lucy first.

How do I unlink my Facebook or Instagram?

Reply DISCONNECT. If both are linked Lucy asks which one — reply DISCONNECT INSTAGRAM, DISCONNECT FACEBOOK or DISCONNECT ALL. Your plan keeps running and your posts stay up.

Text DISCONNECT. Lucy names what is currently linked and waits — nothing happens until you say which. If only one thing is connected, reply DISCONNECT CONFIRM. If both your Facebook Page and Instagram are linked she asks which you meant: reply DISCONNECT INSTAGRAM or DISCONNECT FACEBOOK to unlink just that one and leave the other working, or DISCONNECT ALL for both. Whichever you choose, she unlinks it and deletes the access you gave her, rather than just forgetting it. Posts that are already published stay exactly where they are, and your plan and your posts-per-month are untouched — this only stops Lucy being able to publish. Reply CONNECT whenever you want to link them again; it is a fresh sign-in with Facebook, because the old access is genuinely gone. Only the account owner can do this, so a colleague on the account cannot unlink the business's pages.

How do I delete my account and my data?

Reply DELETE ACCOUNT, then DELETE ACCOUNT CONFIRM. Everything Lucy holds is erased after 30 days — reply KEEP any time before then and she calls it off, with any posts you had left still there.

Text DELETE ACCOUNT. Lucy explains exactly what goes and waits — nothing happens until you reply DELETE ACCOUNT CONFIRM. Then she unlinks your social accounts, stops posting, and schedules everything she holds for erasure: your business details, your photos, your post history and your phone number. That happens 30 days later, so if you change your mind you have a month — reply KEEP and I'll cancel it, with any posts you had left still there. You will need to reply CONNECT afterwards, because the access to your social accounts is deleted straight away when you ask to be erased and it does not come back. Posts that were already published stay on Facebook and Instagram; those are yours and Lucy cannot reach them once she is unlinked, so delete any you want removed before you start this. Only the account owner can delete the account. Note that plain DELETE means something different and much smaller: it bins the preview you are looking at, exactly like SCRAP.

Can I stop Lucy posting for a while without cancelling?

Reply PAUSE. Lucy stops turning your photos into posts until you reply RESUME. Your plan, your posts and your connected accounts all stay as they are — and your billing carries on.

Text PAUSE when you want a quiet spell — a holiday, a renovation, a slow month. Lucy stops making posts from your photos. If you send her a picture while you're paused she leaves it alone and reminds you how to come back. Everything else stays exactly as it was: your plan, your posts-per-month, your connected accounts and anything already published. Reply RESUME and she picks up straight away. Two things worth knowing. Pausing Lucy does not pause your billing — the subscription keeps running, so if you want to change what you pay, reply BILLING. And PAUSE is not the same as QUIET: QUIET switches off Lucy's own reminders while she keeps making posts, whereas PAUSE stops the posts and leaves the reminders alone. You can use both together.

How do I check my plan and how many posts I have left?

Reply STATUS. Lucy tells you your plan, how many posts you've used and have left, when they top up, what's connected, and anything you've switched off.

Text STATUS and Lucy reads it straight back: which plan you're on (or how long your free month has left), how many posts you've used out of your allowance and when it tops up, and which accounts are connected. She also tells you about anything you have switched off — if posting is paused, or reminders are off, it says so, because forgetting you paused is easy to do and confusing when photos stop turning into posts. These numbers come straight from your account rather than being worked out on the fly, so they are always the real ones.

Who else can text Lucy about my business?

Reply WHO and Lucy lists every number on the account and who the owner is. ADD invites someone, REMOVE and the number takes them off.

Text WHO. Lucy lists every phone number that can text her about your business, marks which one is the owner, and points out which one is you. If it's just you, she says so. The owner is the number that can add or remove people, change the account's main number, unlink the social accounts, and delete the account — everyone else can send photos and approve posts. To bring someone in, reply ADD and Lucy sends you a link to pass them. To take someone off, reply REMOVE followed by their number.
